"If we are committed to the dream of world peace, we must first educate our children and teach them understanding and compassion for other people, races, and cultures."
- Liam Neeson, National Spokesperson

Journeys in Film, a New Mexico-based non-profit organization, transforms the way middle school students understand and experience the world, while teaching necessary skills to succeed in tomorrow's global economy.

Journeys in Film broadens global learning, by harnessing one of the most powerful forms of media - film.

·1 Our innovative educational program combines age appropriate films from around the world with interdisciplinary curriculum guides.

·2 Rigorous, standards-based lesson plans in social studies, geography, history, language arts, math, science, the arts and media literacy are developed based on the culture and geography of the films.

·3 Each lesson plan offers delineated McRel standards for easy integration into core curriculum and 'No Child Left Behind' benchmarks.

Global awareness promotes understanding, tolerance and acceptance of ethnic, cultural, religious and personal differences as they play out in communities and workplaces. It also helps students work through the complexities of different points of view that spring from different parts of the world.

Research in both educational theory and cognitive psychology tells us that visual learning is among the very best methods for teaching students of all ages how to think and how to learn. Visual learning techniques - graphical ways of working with ideas and presenting information - teach students to clarify their thinking, and to process, organize and prioritize new information.

The universal messages in the films enable students to transcend regional, economic, ethnic, cultural and religious distinctions that often separate people from their fellow citizens. Film has the ability to transport students mentally to locations and remote regions that they may never otherwise have the opportunity to experience
